Hey there, fellow dog lovers!

Ready to embark on a fun-filled adventure in the world of photography with your furry best friend?

Preparing for a photoshoot with your dog is an exciting endeavour that will allow you to cherish memories for years to come. Whether you're looking at hiring a professional photographer (like me The Furry Folk) or simply want to capture some heartwarming moments, I've got you covered.

Let's dig into the details and ensure that your doggie diva or dapper dude shines in every frame!

Choose the Perfect Location

When it comes to a photoshoot with your pup you want to choose a location that is both meaningful to you and also photogenic. Work with your photographer to find a location that works at the chosen time (sunrise or sunset are my favs) and even consider incorporating activities you enjoy doing with your pup like a swim, paddle boarding or even a mountain hike. I’m based on the Sunshine Coast, and we are blessed with several dog-friendly and photogenic spots that will make your photos truly unforgettable. Some of my favourite places to take my furry folk are listed below:

Stumers Creek: This serene beach in Coolum offers soft sands and gentle waves, providing a picturesque backdrop for your photoshoot. Let your dog explore the shoreline and capture their joyful expressions as they frolic about in the water.

Point Cartwright: Located in Buddina, Point Cartwright is a coastal headland with breathtaking panoramic views. The rugged cliffs, stunning ocean vistas, and lush greenery create a diverse and captivating setting for your dog's photoshoot. Capture their adventurous spirit as they explore the rocky outcrops and enjoy the coastal breeze.

Mount Ninderry: If you and your pup are up for a little hike, Mount Ninderry is a fantastic option. The trail offers sweeping views of the Sunshine Coast hinterland and the sparkling ocean beyond. As you reach the summit, take advantage of the elevated perspective to capture your furry friend against the stunning natural backdrop.

Shelly Beach: This beautiful stretch of sand in Caloundra is known for its tranquil atmosphere and stunning rock formations. The rocky outcrops provide interesting textures and shapes that add depth to your photos. Let your dog explore the rock pools or run along the shoreline, capturing their energy and playfulness against the backdrop of crashing waves.

Time It Right

Lighting plays a vital role in photography, and on the Sunshine Coast, you'll find plenty of opportunities for beautiful natural light. Plan your photoshoot during the golden hours, shortly after sunrise and before sunset, to capture that soft, warm glow. The magical lighting will make your dog's features pop and create a dreamy ambiance for your timeless photos.

Grooming Galore

Before the big day, pay a visit to Pawmona Laundromutt for a pampering session. Their skilled groomer Lindsay will ensure your dog's coat is shiny, nails are trimmed, and ears are squeaky clean. Your pup will feel like a true superstar with their fresh, groomed look!

Dress to Impress

To add that extra touch of style, check out Hooper and Ruff for adorable bow ties and accessories. Their wide selection of fashionable dog accessories will help your pup look dapper and camera-ready. Choose accessories that reflect your dog's personality and add a unique flair to their ensemble. When choosing an outfit for yourself, make sure it’s both comfortable and it feels great! You can talk to your photographer about what colourings suit their editing style. For me, you can go past white & blue tones.

Treats and Toys

Bring along your pet's beloved toys and tasty treats to keep your furry friend engaged and focused during the photoshoot. Small, bite-sized rewards will work wonders in capturing their undivided attention and creating those heart-melting expressions that melt your heart. These treats can be a saviour for your photographer, ensuring that your dog stays cooperative and attentive throughout the session. Additionally, incorporating their cherished toys into the shoot adds an element of playfulness and spontaneity, capturing their natural joy and personality. A little note on treats though, it's important to allow the photographer to be in charge, as using them excessively early on can disrupt the timing and flow of the photoshoot.

Practice Makes Perfect

Whether you have a professional photographer like The Furry Folk or your best friend taking some shots for you, you can help your dog feel at ease in front of the camera by practicing beforehand. Familiarise them with the camera equipment and let them explore and sniff around. Reward them with praise, treats, and lots of affection to build a positive association with the photoshoot experience. Take some trial shots to get them comfortable with the process, ensuring they're relaxed and ready to shine on the big day.

Capture Candid Moments

While posed shots certainly have their place, candid moments often steal the show! Allow your dog to be themselves and embrace their natural behaviour. Whether it's splashing in the waves at Point Cartwright or strolling through the lush trails of Buderim Palmwoods heritage tramway walk, these unscripted moments will create cherished memories that truly reflect your dog's personality. Be prepared to capture those spontaneous, joyful instances that will warm your heart for years to come.

Remember, the Sunshine Coast is abundant with scenic locations, so don't be afraid to explore and discover hidden gems that resonate with you and your pup's personalities.
